The Decade from Hell? The Declining Decade? I Beg to Differ
December 31, 2009
Happy New Year 2010!
Today's the last day of the first decade of the 21st Century!
Wow!
Over the past few days and weeks, I've seen boatloads of news stories in print, online, and on television decrying the events of the past 10 years and saying that this was "The Decade from Hell" or "The Declining Decade" or using some such negative descriptions.
People are quoted as saying good riddance to this decade.
Sure, there have been some horrible things that have happened in the past 10 years -- September 11th, Hurricane Katrina, Wall Street scandals, the big Asian Tsunami, etc.
However, when I look at the last 10 years on a more personal level, I see a very different picture.
This is the decade when I got engaged.
This is the decade when I got married to the love of my life.
This is the first decade of my life when I was no longer in school.
This is the decade when I bought my first home.
This is the decade when I enjoyed all kinds of wonderful travels near and far.
This is the decade when I changed careers and became a REALTOR.
This is the decade when I made my biggest sale.
This is the decade when I've been quoted in the news and appeared on national television.
This is the decade when I've established my roots and set the foundation for my future.
I have no doubt that this next decade which is just around the corner will be even better, even bigger, and even more exciting than this past one. I look forward to the journey and the challenges that it will bring.
Happy New Year! Happy New Decade!
What are your best memories and achievements from the past 10 years?
