D.C.'s Thriving Theater Scene: What's on Stage?

If you are lucky enough to live in or visit the D.C. metropolitan area, you'll never be at a loss for something to do to satisfy your cultural desires.  

 

On stage in D.C.

 

 

The Washington D.C. area has a wealth of activities from live music to symphony orchestra, wonderful museums and monuments.  The metropolitan D.C. area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia also has a thriving theater scene, whether it's a local playhouse or the National Theater!  Many shows come down to the area from Broadway or start out here before heading up to the Great White Way.

One Man Star Wars

From December 11th through December 30th, see the sure to be quirky and fun, "One-Man Star Wars Trilogy" where Canadian actor Charles Ross distills three Star Wars movies into a 75 minute play with all the special effects and characters.  On stage at the Woolly Mammoth Theater located at 641 D Street, NW.  Online at www.woollymammoth.net

 

 

 

 A Christmas Carol

  

No holiday season would be complete without an adaptation of Charles Dicken's classic, "A Christmas Carol."  This show in on stage at the Arena Stage theater from now through December 30th.  The Arena Stage is located at 1101 Sixth Street, SW in D.C.  Online at www.arenastage.net.

 

 

  

Monty Python's Spamalot

Do you want to laugh a lot?  Then see "Monty Python's Spamalot" at the National Theatre.  This musical is loosely based on the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and has that Monty Python signature spin.  Playing from December 11th through January 6th.  The National Theater is located at 1321 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Washington.  See www.nationaltheatre.org for more details.

The Lion King

 

Big announcement:  Disney's "The Lion King" makes its way straight from Broadway to the Kennedy Center Opera House during the Summer of 2008 (June 26-August 24, 2008).  This award winning show will be making its Washington D.C. debut after elven years of sold-out Broadway performances.  More details at www.kennedy-center.org.
