Two years ago, Washingtonian Magazine published an article entitled "Golden Zip Codes" where it listed the 50 zip codes in metropolitan D.C. with the highest average homes sales price in 2004. This was supposedly at the height of our area's real estate boom. At the time, the article stated that "the million-dollar home is no longer a symbol of wealth. It is officially 'average.'" Great Falls, Virginia topped the list with an average 2004 sales price of $1,026,935. I've picked 10 of these zip codes to compare and look at 2006 average sales price versus the 2004 prices reported in the Washingtonian article. Here are the results: Golden Zip Codes: Average 2006 Sales Price and Percent Increase from 2004

Some of these percentage changes are truly shocking for just a two year comparison. It will be interesting to look back in another 2 years! |
