Northern Virginia's Wealthiest 15 Zip Codes

Back in March, I wrote an article about the average home sales prices in some of the pricier Northern Virginia and D.C. neighborhoods according to zip code.  (SEE Northern Virginia & D.C. Golden Zip Codes Revisited).

The D.C. and Northern Virginia area is one of the wealthiest in the country, not just by home prices but also by median household income.  With job growth fueling the region, Northern Virginia leads the area in high-paying jobs with high-tech, government contractors, and high-level government jobs, especially with Homeland Defense.

This week's Washington Business Journal reports on the Wealthiest Zip Codes in the metropolitan D.C. area, listing the top 50 in Virginia, Maryland and D.C.  Virginia tops the list with 27 zip codes, followed by 19 in Maryland and 4 in the District.  

Of the 27 wealthiest zip codes in Northern Virginia, a total of 18 are in Fairfax County, including the top 3 overall.  9 of the top Virginia zip codes are in Fairfax County.  The other zip code in the top 10 of Virginia is Waterford, VA 20197 in Loudoun County.

The data was compiled from "indicators of affluence that include average household income and average net worth.. . Top ranks reflect both accumulated wealth and the rate of increase in wealth."
